Pat Summitt Appearance at the Meeting of the Minds Dementia Conference

With eight national championships and more wins than any other NCAA basketball coach, former University of Tennessee coach Pat Summitt is no stranger to standing ovations. But none may have been as heartfelt as the one she received today at the Meeting of the Minds dementia conference in St. Paul. Summitt was accompanied on stage by former player Michelle Marciniak.

Summitt, who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2011, retired from coaching the following year. Known for her passion and fire on the court, she is showing that same passion and fire against this knew opponent.

The Meeting of the Minds Dementia Conference is for people with mild cognitive impairment or early dementia, families, friends and professionals. The conference is a collaboration between the Alzheimer’s Association Minnesota-North Dakota Chapter and Mayo Clinic, who work together to create a day designed to inform, equip and support people with dementia, family caregivers and professionals.
