Mayo Clinic researcher Keith Knutson and his team have received investigational new drug approval from the Food and Drug Administration for two new vaccines that mobilize the body’s defense mechanisms to destroy cancer cells. The vaccines are among the first aimed at preventing cancer recurrence. The approval clears the way for Phase I clinical trials later this year with women treated for ovarian or breast cancer.

As a recent Ovarian cancer survivor, this makes me reallly excited. Of the women who get O.C., and make it, the majority of them have a reoccurence. This is fantastic news for all of us the have that fact lingering over our heads. I pray I never do, but for all of us, may this vaccine WORK! And be available SOON! Finally a major step forward in fighting cancer!
