Two Mayo physicians, Veronique L. Roger, M.D., MPH, and Ronald C. Petersen, M.D., Ph.D., recently published editorials in the Journal of American Medicine (JAMA).
Dr. Roger’s editorial, Lifestyle and Cardiovascular Health, discusses that chronic diseases — specifically, cardiovascular diseases — have become the leading cause of death and disability in most countries in the world as part of the epidemiologic transition into the 21st century. Dr. Roger’s research programs combine cutting edge molecular cardiology tools to population sciences methodology to understand determinants of diseases and their outcomes in large scale population studies.
Dr. Petersen’s editorial, Use of Alzheimer Disease Biomarkers, indicates that research in Alzheimer disease is rapidly moving toward the point of the earliest possible identification of the underlying disease processes. Dr. Petersen is Director of the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.
