My 83 year old dad has been told he has a grade 9 prostate cancer confined to the right side of his prostate with a PSA of less than 2. His non-Mayo urologist is telling him the scale is 2-10 yet he is wanting to wait 6 months before seeing him again. I understand that most men over a certain age will have prostate cancer but I am concerned about waiting 6 months with a grade 9. I'd like a second opinion at Mayo but am wondering if his age is the reason that is precluding more aggressive treatment. Thanks so much. Mayo saved my husband's life with his prostate cancer so I have the utmost faith in you.

My husband is in stage four of prostate cancer. My son just alerted me to an article in Science Daily in which there seems to be a dramatic outcome in prostate cancer. "Two Mayo Clinic patients whose prostate cancer had been considered inoperable are now cancer free thanks, in part, to an experimental drug therapy that was used in combination with standardized hormone treatment and radiation therapy."

My husband has a quickly spreading prostate cancer that is moving into his bones and is inoperable, of course. This study is still being tested but by the time it's available to prostate cancer patients my husband will no longer be with us. What does it take to get someone who has no other choice in treatment to get into this study??

Pretty soon the drug companies are going to claim that statins cure the common cold. It's all marketing hype, but the medical community seems blind to it all. Just say no to statins!
