Mayo Clinic, Grameen Healthcare Launch Demonstration Project


Mayo Clinic and Grameen Healthcare are exploring opportunities to benefit global, underserved populations by leveraging Mayo Clinic’s knowledge and expertise in health care and Grameen’s capabilities in effective, low-cost distribution models. Following an initial demonstration project in Bangladesh in 2009-2010, the two organizations will investigate additional endeavors in Bangladesh as well as the application of learned, low-cost health care delivery models in the United States.

    • I do not know the answer, but will inquire and respond to your question.

    • There are a lot of interesting models in place exploring low-cost delivery methods; a literature search on the topic will yield interesting studies. In Bangladesh in particular, the Grameen organization has implemented many projects in partnership with a variety of healthcare entities, including such things as low-cost insurance, the use of home health workers, clean water projects, etc. In fact, Mayo Clinic piloted a small project with Grameen utilizing cell phones to gather basic information from community members.
